WHEN DOES THE DIGITAL CHANGEOVER START? In the early hours of 17th October 2007 around 25,000 households will be the first to have the old analogue signal switched off (Whitehaven, Western Cumbria, UK), then by 2012 most TV signals will be broadcasting as digital signals.

WHAT IS DIGITAL CHANGEOVER OR SWITCHOVER ABOUT ? Digital TV Changeover is the process when the Government turns off the analogue broadcast television to converted to digital television in an area or in this case nation-wide, also referred to as analogue switchoff OR switchover .

ARE MANY PEOPLE OR REGIONS AWARE OF THE CHANGE ? Ofcom estimate that 63% of households are already using television, while market researchers GfK show that 48 per cent of televisions sold between April and June were analogue and nearly half of all televisions sold over the past three months are old-fashioned analogue sets. CAN OLD ANALOGUE TV's GET DIGITAL ? Yes, the five existing terrestrial TV channels will continue to be available free-to-view via digital TV. Digital television can be accessed through Freeview set-top receiver boxes, via digital satellite, digital cable or (online) broadband television services, where the set-top box can be provided for free or with other subscription costs. see Pro's & Con's.

- a set-top box = £30 per analogue TV. (free channels otherwise add subscription costs to watch HD - High definition TV)
- a new aerial = Roof-top start at around £125 (providing its a basic aerial) or about £10 for an indoor aerial.
- a new installation = £132 (providing its a basic installation).
- new video recorder = £150 (if not digital).

- According to HDforAll, Ofcom plans to sell off the publicly-owned spectrum required to show HD signals on Freeview to the highest bidder. Also the Government hopes to generate revenue from selling off the analogue broadcasting spectrum that TV used to occupy.
- HDTV (High Definition Television) is a technology to improve pictures displayed by a television. An HD-Ready TV and digital TV are different, if the television carries the digital ‘tick’ logo
then it is an integrated digital television (IDTV). Otherwise you will need to upgrade your television equipment using a digital box, then you can get HDTV on digital.
